Hidden Canberra

I am a direct descendant of William Price who was transported to Australia in 1816

on board the "Ocean".

I also have a connection to the "First Fleet" through my Great Grandmother Mary

Jane Mitchell, wife of Rowland Alexander Price.

Mary Jane is the Great Granddaughter Elizabeth Youngson who arrived in Australia

via the "Prince of Wales" 1788.

I am a relatively new member of the Canberra environment, having been here for only 35 Years. I am the product of the ADF - My father was given a choice to post here or Richmond, Canberra sounded better, and we have been here ever since.

I was educated at Charnwood Primary, Charnwood high and Copland College, and work for an IT company.

My hobbies include the Weather and Lapidary, i was a member of the Canberra Gem society, the ACT Lapidary club until my children arrived and my time was not my own anymore. And my wife tells me this won't change anytime soon!

General interest in the development of Canberra, especially in 1920s and 30s. More specifically interested in development of Barton (Telopea Park) - I have been compiling information about houses and people from any sources I can get, including the Property and Tenancy Registers, Planning and Land Management, National Archives. Press housing and offices seem to be emerging as an interesting subplot. Love old maps and plans! Now live in house occupied for several decades by Maurice and Doreen Myers  and am interested in info about them. Happy researching!
