                                             THE MEMORIES LINGER ON

Local Author and Historian, Alan Foskett has, over the past ten years, written and self published twenty books on aspects of Canberra’s urban and sporting history.

His new 360 page book ‘The Memories Linger On’ is the second on the history of the city’s hostels and early hotels. The first, ‘A Home in the Capital’ was published in 2007.

Those hostels and early hotels covered in The Memories Linger On are Brassey, Beauchamp, Lawley, Havelock and Gorman Houses, the Hotel Kurrajong and Gowrie Private Hotel, Richardson House in Braddon, Reid House, Forestry House at Yarralumla and the Canberra, Wellington, Civic, Kingston and Ainslie Hotels. The Ainslie Workmen’s and Migrant Hostel and the Fairbairn Workmen’s Hostel are also included.

The book covers the history of each establishment and is packed with stories from former residents who recall life in one or other of those mostly ‘much loved’ establishments. There is also a chapter which updates information on those hostels included in ‘A Home in the Capital’.

The Memories Linger On can be obtained from the author (Ph 02 62486475) or from the following Canberra outlets.
